As part of a neighbordhood garden event celebrating the autumn equinox following drumming and altar-building, participants embarked on creating the gaoriyeon (stingray kite) from start to finish: collaging with paper and dead leaves, to threading the bridle line, and attaching their tails. Participants meditated on the year’s harvest and imbued into the dead leaves the fruits they bore, the ideas they wish to let go of or release, and changes and growth they reaped throughout the year. The kites bearing dead leaves were then flown into the sky.
