This activity-based event accompanied Kang Seung Lee’s project with LACMA:
“...Kang has created an augmented reality monument based on kites, an artwork called la revolución es la solución! inspired by the 1992 Los Angeles uprising. Using kites, Kang shares histories, cultures, and voices of different communities in Los Angeles during this time. You may wonder why Kang chose kites to tell such a complex story. In Korea, a gathering for kiteflying is traditionally held to celebrate the New Year and also after memorial services. For Kang, the kites are the archives that fly together like fragmented puzzles to amplify stories from activists, community leaders, and people like you.”
Participants gathered at Algin Sutton Recreation Center to build their own custom kites with the themes and historical moments such as the 1992 Los Angeles uprising in mind.
